Kapitel 1 – Handwerker kommen in die Stadt
Der Morgen ist hell.
The morning is bright.
Hartwig steht vor dem Haus.
Hartwig stands in front of the house.
Er sieht den Weg entlang.
He looks along the path.
Der Weg ist ruhig, aber Hartwig hört etwas.
The path is quiet, but Hartwig hears something.
Er sagt: „Ich höre Schritte.“
He says, “I hear footsteps.”
Arnulf kommt aus dem Garten.
Arnulf comes out of the garden.
Er sagt: „Ich höre auch etwas.“
He says, “I hear something too.”
Beide sehen nach vorn.
Both look ahead.
Drei Männer kommen langsam den Weg entlang.
Three men are slowly coming along the path.
Sie tragen Holz und kleine Werkzeuge.
They are carrying wood and small tools.
Ihre Kleidung ist einfach.
Their clothing is simple.
Sie sehen müde aus, aber sie gehen weiter.
They look tired, but they keep going.
Hartwig sagt: „Das sind Handwerker.“
Hartwig says, “Those are craftsmen.”
Arnulf nickt.
Arnulf nods.
Die Männer bleiben vor dem Haus stehen.
The men stop in front of the house.
Ein Mann sagt: „Wir kommen aus dem Norden. Wir arbeiten am
Weg.“
One man says, “We come from the north. We work on the road.”
Hartwig sagt: „Der Weg ist alt.“
Hartwig says, “The road is old.”
Die Männer gehen ein paar Schritte zum alten römischen Stein.
The men walk a few steps toward the old Roman stone.
Sie sehen den Stein lange an.
They look at the stone for a long time.
Ein anderer Mann sagt: „Wir machen den Weg neu. Wir brauchen
Holz.“
Another man says, “We are rebuilding the road. We need wood.”
Hartwig sagt: „Ich habe Holz.“
Hartwig says, “I have wood.”
Arnulf sieht die Werkzeuge der Männer.
Arnulf looks at the men’s tools.
Er sagt: „Ich bringe Wasser.“
He says, “I will bring water.”
Er holt Wasser aus dem Haus und gibt es den Männern.
He gets water from the house and gives it to the men.
Ein Mann trinkt und sagt: „Danke.“
One man drinks and says, “Thank you.”
Gerlind kommt zur Tür.
Gerlind comes to the door.
Sie sieht die Männer.
She sees the men.
Sie sagt: „Ihr arbeitet heute hier?“
She says, “Are you working here today?”
Ein Mann sagt: „Ja. Wir beginnen heute.“
One man says, “Yes. We begin today.”
Hartwig sagt: „Ich helfe euch. Ich hole Holz.“
Hartwig says, “I will help you. I will get wood.”
Arnulf sieht den Weg an.
Arnulf looks at the road.
Er sagt: „Der Tag ist gut.“
He says, “The day is good.”
Die Männer gehen weiter zum Weg.
The men continue toward the road.
Hartwig folgt ihnen.
Hartwig follows them.
Arnulf geht langsam hinterher.
Arnulf walks slowly behind.
Der Tag beginnt mit Arbeit.
The day begins with work.
